In a whirlwind last few hours for the 15th-place Crystal Palace, the club has seen both 28-year-old striker Jean-Philippe Mateta's £30M move to Italian giants AC Milan be halted thanks to issues with Mateta's medical, while also welcoming former Wolverhampton striker Jørgen Strand Larsen, who was recently acquired for €49.70M.
Strand Larsen's new home
"I think that we are a perfect match," quoted the Norwegian striker to Palace media in an in-house interview Monday afternoon, when asked about the fit between him and manager Oliver Glasner.
After a loan spell last season to Wolves, which saw Larsen notch 14 goals and five assists in 38 games, Wolverhampton opened their pocketbook for a €27.00M transfer from Spanish club Celta Vigo ahead of the campaign.
So far this season, Larsen has tallied six goals and two assists for a struggling Wolves side that is currently planted in 20th place with just eight points beside their name.
Last season's wonderous run
The world really took notice of Larsen last March when he and Wolves embarked on a six-game winning streak, which saw Larsen total six goals during that spell, helping push the West Midlands club well away from a relegation bout.
"It's not only about the striking and scoring," quoted Larsen.
"It needs to have a team behind him working as well, and that's something I would definitely be looking into, and I feel like, in this team, there is loads of quality. It is a team all together. It feels safe to come here, and it feels like I'm gonna get the service I need."
In terms of expected goals this season, Palace nicely fits into seventh place with 38 expected goals, yet just 25 scored, calling for the need of a refreshed attack.
Palace's striker room is now stockpiled with two dangerous finishers inside the box. Mateta himself has rejuvenated his career and turned himself into one of Europe's hottest commodities as he has reached at least 10 goals in three straight seasons, with his 2023/24 season peaking at 19 goals. So far this season, Mateta's eight league goals lead Palace, with winger Ismaila Sarr following behind with four of his own.
